Up & Close With Ghanaian Born Asia Based Singer Jaki

Elizabeth Amissah was born in exile in Ibadan Nigeria to Liberian mother Annie Bolu, a Trader, and Ghanaian father Owu Kojo Baiden Amissah. When she was eight years old her father’s wish to one day reunite with his children in Ghana came true when Jaki and her siblings- two sisters and a brother moved to Ghana for the first time since the twenty-six years their father had been forced to live in exile from his beloved Ghana for making a song criticizing the methods and governance of the then president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah

Two years after her father died. In 1989 she was sent to live with an auntie in Ghana who raised her and sent her to school. Jaki decided at a very early age, while still in school to become a performing artiste. She then joined a local band called Fish Band in 1997 where she studied singing and crafted her showmanship, but unfortunately, this partnership came to an abrupt end leaving her with little practical know-how to build with, except her zeal and determination to succeed in life and music.

In 2003, Jaki emigrated to Hong Kong on a quest for a better life and to fulfill her musical ambitions and worldly dreams. Here, she worked in restaurants and bars for a period, making good friends along the line who would later help her join the Philipians Band where she improved her singing and live performance. This opportunity led to many others, including the chance to join a number of prominent top 40 foreign cover bands that toured all over the world. She performed in locations in Hong Kong, China, Macou, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Egypt, Baring, Dubia, Fiji, Australia and many others. By this time, her act had come to comprise more of rock music and her venues ranged from other Clubs, Bars, Beaches, Stadia, Hotels, Cruise Liners, Etc.

In the middle of 2013 she returned to Ghana after touring the world with the top 40 bands, with plans of setting up a business with the fortune she had amassed over the last ten years but unfortunately, lost all of it when she was duped. Broken but not defeated, she set out to rebuild and a year later was introduced by Baba Abu to Jimmi Davis, CEO of One Nation Entertainment, who signed her to Street Music Entertainment – an offshoot label created for more risqué brands and sounds. Jimmi was confident that Jaki could represent the identity of the new Image and sound he felt embodied the new burgeoning genre of street music Known as R.E.P. (Raw Ethnic Pop) and geared up to launch her career with her debut single Ashawo off her debut album slated for mid 2017
