She has been in the news for over a week now. Otiko Djaba is the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, whose failure to do her National Service has stirred the media. Despite opposition from the minority, she is currently the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection. Here are some interesting facts about her.

  1. President Mahama’s father and Otiko’s mother are brother and sister; making former president Mahama and Otiko first cousins.
  2. Joyce Bawa, the Former Deputy Transport Minister is Otiko’s half sister, they are of the same mother.

  3. Otiko’s father is from Somenya, making Otiko a Krobo but having lived with her mother in the Northern region for most of her life, has a deeper connection with the North – the reason why she lashed out on former president Mahama for the failure of SADA.

  4. Otiko, together with some of her siblings lived in the UK for sometime, where their father had moved to after he left Ghana.
