Charles Onuawonto Bissue is a Difficult’ meat’ for the Special Prosecutor to Chew on

Special Prosecutor declares Charles Bissue wanted

It appears the office of the Special Prosecutor is finding difficulties dealing with the former Presidential Staffer, Mr. Charles Bissue. For some time now, the OSP and Mr. Charles Bissue have been playing ‘hard to get’ games. The OSP has refused to allow Mr. Bissue to rest whilst lawyers for Mr. Bissue are making matters difficult for the OSP.

What is New?

The office of the special prosecutor has declared former Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Charles Bissue wanted.

This is coming a few days after the Special Prosecutor secured an order from the court for his arrest. The special prosecutor invited Mr. Bissue to his office last month but he declined. Lawyers for the former secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Western Region have indicated that his client will not honor the invitation.

A court today adjourned a case to July 4 at the behest of a lawyer for Charles Onuawonto Bissue.

According to the office of the special prosecutor, lawyers for Charles Bissue told them his client was “so unwell that he cannot stand and talk.”

Charles Onuawonto Bissue was to move an injunction application seeking to stop OSP from prosecuting him. On the back of this, the OSP has called for Charles Bissue’s head. The OSP has vowed to ensure Charles Bissue is brought to their office to answer some questions.

Will Bissue Turn Himself in?

Likely, Mr. Charles Bissue will again disregard the ‘wanted’ statement released by the special prosecutor. He is likely to go to court again to restrain the Special Prosecutor from further publishing the wanted note.

How it Started

The SP on May 22 invited Mr. Charles Bissue to appear before his office for questioning. Lawyers for Mr. Charles Bissue, however, declined the invite with the excuse that their client has “a domestic emergency”.

Later, Layers for Charles Onuawonto Bissue wrote to the Special Prosecutor demanding a copy of the petition forming the basis of the invitation and asking that the said meeting be rescheduled to May 25.

Charles Bissue is a difficult’meat’ for the Special Prosecutor to chew on.The OSP rejected the lawyers for Charles Onuawonto Bissue’s suggestion, insisting on the May 22 deadline. The back and forth over the matter prompted the OSP to get a court warrant for Charles Bissue’s arrest.

Mr. Bissue and his lawyers have stormed the court once more, this time demanding that the arrest order obtained by the OSP against him be revoked. They also requested that the court find that the OSP was infringing on his human rights.
