According to research, individuals with a college degree have better career options and earn more than those without degrees.However, the college offers more advantages than just career advantages.Individuals benefit intellectually and socially from attending college.Sadly, many people decide not to go to college because they think they can’t afford the cost of tuition and other things.
There are a lot of scholarships in South Carolina that are just for people who live there. These scholarships can help students who might have trouble paying for college.
1. African American Network – Carolinas Scholarship Fund
Scholarships are provided to students who intend to pursue the following degrees by the Carolina Chapter of the African American Network, a Duke Energy employee resource group.
Accounting
Business Administration
Computer Science
Engineering
Finance
Mathematics
Science
Scholarships are awarded by participating colleges, universities, or community service organizations, so there is no application required. Selections are made based on the student’s grade point average and financial need. Students must be planning to attend a four-year institution of higher education in either North Carolina or South Carolina after graduating from a high school in either state.
2. ANSWER Endowment Scholarship
The Anderson Nontraditional Scholarship for Women’s Education is open to applications from women over the age of 25 who are homeschooling their children (ANSWER).Adult women who are interested in furthering their education are supported financially and offered guidance by ANSWER. Women who enroll in any four-year degree program or students who enroll in a two-year nursing or CPCC Health Career program are eligible for this award.
3. Bobbi Rossi Memorial Scholarship
Students studying nursing at the University of South Carolina are eligible to apply for the Bobbi Rossi Memorial Scholarship. The University of South Carolina’s College of Nursing requires applicants to be currently enrolled in the upper division or have received admission to the upper division and to have a minimum grade point average of 3.0.During the fall and spring semesters, applicants must be full-time students. Through active participation in campus life and volunteer service, recipients must uphold a commitment to USC and the local community. During the application process, academic achievement, community/school activities, financial need, and the applicant’s personal statement will be taken into consideration.
4. Carolinas-Virginias Retail Hardware
A scholarship of up to $1,250 is available to the children of employees of businesses that are members of the Carolinas-Virginia Retail Hardware Association. Eleven scholarships are available, and applicants must be residents of Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, or South Carolina. Stepchildren, adopted children, and natural born children can all apply. In order to apply, wards or stepchildren must reside in the employee’s home, and their parents must have worked full-time for two years. At least one year of membership is required for the parent company’s employer. Additionally, applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5.
5. CFIC Everett and Trudy Suddreth Scholarship of Excellence
The Everett and Trudy Suddreth Scholarship of Excellence is open to applicants who work for companies that are members of the Carolina Food Industry Council (CFIC).There are forty scholarships available, each of which can be worth up to $2,500.Employees’ spouses and children are eligible as long as the employee has worked for the company for at least one year. High school seniors and undergraduates who are already enrolled in college are eligible for the award.
6. Charleston Women in International Trade
Two $1,000 scholarships are available from Charleston Women in International Commerce to both men and women who show interest in pursuing a career in international trade. Candidates must reside in South Carolina permanently. The organization also provides two $1,500 scholarships for seniors in high school and two $3,000 scholarships for college-bound students. The online application must be finished.
7. Daughters of the Holy Cross – Sara Hempley Scholarship
The Daughters of the Holy Cross provide the Sara Hempley Scholarship, which awards $500 to a non-traditional student pursuing a degree from a technical, two-year, or four-year institution. Priority is given to students who are Richland County School District residents and have some level of life and job experience beyond that of normal high school graduates. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and show that they have the capacity to achieve in their chosen degree career. Scholarship recipients must attend an approved college or university, and the funds must be utilized for tuition, books, fees, or course-related equipment.
8. David M. Cline Scholarship
One student who is a resident of South Carolina and intends to major in law enforcement, criminal justice, or forensic science is eligible to receive the $2,000.The applicant must be a senior in a South Carolina public or private high school and attend a South Carolina college.
9. Estelle Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Estelle Jones Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student who aspires to pursue a nursing profession. Applicants must have graduated from a Richland County public or private high school. Students who are members of Zion Damascus Church Number Two are given priority. If there are no qualifying candidates from the church, the scholarship may be offered to another Hopkins community member who meets all other eligibility conditions. Applicants must be able to finish the degree program and have a high level of school and community commitment.
10. Estelle Jones Non-Traditional Students Scholarship
The Estelle Jones Non-Traditional Student Scholarship is intended for African-American citizens of Richland County School District One who want to attend college or technical school. Preference is given to those who have some life and professional experience, and applications are accepted all year. The award is for one year, although former beneficiaries are welcome to reapply. Applicants must be Richland County residents with a high school diploma or GED. Applicants must show financial necessity as well as the capacity to complete their chosen degree. Recommendations from an employer, religious leaders, or professors who are not connected to the student.
11. First Choice Member Scholarship
First, members with a high school cumulative GPA of 2.0 or a college cumulative GPA of 2.5 are eligible for a scholarship from Choice by Select Health. Applicants must agree to attend an undergraduate college, university, trade or vocational school that is recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools or a regional accrediting organization of equal standing. Applicants must provide an authentic transcript as well as a one-page essay describing why education is essential to them. The following things must be addressed in the essay:
What they Plan To Study and Why
How education will change the applicant’s life
Why the Applicant needs the tuition assistance from First Choice
What the applicant plans to do with their Education
Applicants must also send at least one letter of reference from someone other than family, such as a teacher, guidance counselor, church person, community leader, job supervisor, or someone who has known the applicant for a number of years.
