Dancehall Diva, Spice Tackles Colorism In “Black Hypocrisy” Video

Spice tackles the issue of colorism in her new video “Black Hypocrisy.”

Spice drummed up support for her new project and new song “Black Hypocrisy” when she debut a photo of herself with bleach skin. By the end of the day, we learned that it was all makeup and serves as promotion for her new mixtape and notably her new single. The music video is now out, and the dancehall diva clearly gets a W or the effort which tackles a sensitive subject in the black community.

“I have a dream that one day black women will start supporting each other, rather than bashing each other,” she said in a skit at the beginning of the video. She was speaking from a podium while a group of dark skin women looks on while cheering her on. “Ladies, never forget that you’re beautiful, lovely, attractive, courageous, and kind. I am dripping melanin with honey. I am black without apology.”

The lyrics of the song “Black Hypocrisy” cuts straight through the heart of a serious issue within the black community, particularly in Jamaica where skin bleaching is very rampant. “It’s not what you expect me to say, but am gonna go ahead and say it anyway, because I was told that I would reach further, if the color of my skin was lighter, and I was made to feel inferior, cuz society say brown girls prettier,” Spice sings.

The dancehall diva went on to assure her fans that she loves the color of her skin and would never bleach. Spice even shed a few tears while singing about the hate she received from her own black race. This is a powerful song, a powerful video, and an even more powerful message. She deserves our support and all the credit for coming out with content that speaks volume.

The award for the best marketer goes to the Queen of the Dancehall herself, Spice, aka Grace Hamilton.
